My Classroom

September 11, 2015
After 3 weeks of back to school, I'm finally feeling somewhat caught up! So, without further ado, here's my 2015 Classroom Reveal! Better late than never, right?!

View from the door!
Above is the view as you enter my classroom. The table closest to the door is the math area. Straight back is the reading area. I LOVE being able to have two separate small group tables in my classroom! It's great to have all the materials and manipulatives close to each table.

math bulletin board!

Here, you can see the bulletin board for my math area. Throughout the school year, I use the blank space to post appropriate anchor charts or visual aids, depending on what my different grade levels are learning. If you like the decorations, you can find the math bunting HERE. I've gotten so many complements on the subject buntings I used! You can also find my solving word problems posters HERE.

math area

This is my math area! The shelves contain all of my math manipulatives and materials. I'm slowly buying containers so I can eventually have everything in nice looking containers instead of old boxes/bags. I'm slightly anal when it comes to that! :)

white board between math/reading areas
Here's my white board. It's right between the math and reading bulletin boards. In the bottom right corner, I have spelling materials that I'll be using this year from All About Spelling. I have never used their materials before, but I've heard great things about this program! Many of my kids are really lacking in the spelling department, so I'm hoping this will be a great program for them! Across the top I have alphabet bunting, which can be found HERE.

reading bulletin board & writing process posters

I'm also loving my new bulletin board! Last year, this board was a little boring and the chevron math board definitely looked better. Now, they both look great! This area has lots of my products, including myWriting Process PostersDecoding Strategy Posters, and Subject Banners(again).

You can also see my kid's size yoga ball on the floor. My students are obsessed with it! It's a wonderful option for the kids that just can't sit still, even when trying their best. With the ball, they can bounce around as much as they want, without making noise and distracting other students. I'm relatively open to where kids work (in their seats, standing, lying on the floor, etc.), and so the yoga ball has been a natural extension of that. I highly recommend getting one (or several) for your class!

reading area
Again, I'm working hard to add more containers to my classroom. On the bookshelf, I've found putting the books in big cloth bins helps reduce distractions. It might seem silly, but the black boxes aren't as exciting as multi-colored books of all different sizes!

That's all for now! As I'm catching up on IEP paperwork, my desk area has become even more of a mess! :/ So, I'll update with pictures of that area as I get a little more organized!

Do you have any suggestions from what you see? Anything you really like? Let me know in the comments!

August 24, 2015
I am officially back at school for inservice week! Here are some "before" pictures of my classroom. My classroom is an L shape, with one section for working with students and the other section for my computer, filing cabinet, and desk.

*Here's a quick tip for making your classroom ready for summer: cover all of your surfaces and bulletin boards in plastic table cloths! It was a thousand times easier than trying to cover everything with paper. I think I used three from the dollar store for my whole classroom. Such a time saver!*

The above picture shows my classroom as you enter the room. I use this area for instruction. I typically have 1-4 kids in my classroom at a time. I use the closer small group table as my math center and the small group table in the back as my reading center. Looking at this picture, my "teacher area" is behind the wall on the right.

Above is my area! This contains my printer, computer, filing cabinet, and desk. I don't like to have students back here because it's not easily seen from my door. This past year, I left it pretty plain as it was my first full year in the building. This year, I hope to decorate it and spice it up! :)

Here's the view of my reading center from the filing cabinet area. Below is a picture of my math center from the reading center.

That's my room before I set up! I will be sharing pictures of my fully set up classroom this weekend or early next week. I typically don't see students for at least part of the first week of school, so I get a few extra days to finish up the odds and ends.

Do you have any great ideas for my oddly-shaped room? I would love to hear them! I'm slightly obsessed with rearranging my furniture at least once a year. Send some suggestions my way!! :) This school year will be unique for me because I'll only be spending four months in this classroom before my whole school packs up and moves to a holding school for 18 months. So I'm going to make it look the best I can for these four months!
